About 98 percent of companies have some sort of workplace diversity program in place, but how do they make sure they are attracting diverse employees in the first place?

While there have been great strides in increasing workplace diversity, many industries are still fairly homogeneous. For example, only 7 percent of the high-tech U.S. workforce is Black and 78 percent of organizations lack diversity in leadership positions.

Inclusive and diverse companies have been shown to be both more productive and more innovative than their less diverse counterparts, yet many businesses have trouble attracting top talent representing a range of ethnicities, races, religions, genders, and sexual orientation. Surveys have found that Black and Hispanic students get fewer paid internships than their white counterparts and that Black graduates are twice as likely to be unemployed.

To solve this problem, we created RecDiv. It is the country’s first job board that connects employers with students and alumni from Historically Black Colleges and Universities. While other job boards may claim an emphasis on diversity, ours is exclusively open to students and graduates of HBCU.

HBCUs are historical institutions that were established during times of legal segregation for the purpose of educating Black Americans. HBCUs outperform non-HBCU peer institutions in graduating successful Black professionals in a number of fields including science, technology, and engineering. Studies also show that Black HBCU graduates are better prepared for life after college and are more engaged at work than their non-HBCU counterparts.

RecDiv allows HBCU students and alumni to create a free profile, browse available jobs and internships, and apply for open positions. Job posts can be filtered according to the student’s experience and preferences. Likewise, employers can create an account to list openings and receive applications. Our custom algorithm ensures that businesses are matched with the most qualified and suitable candidates for a given position.
